What are your plans for tonight? Cool, doesn’t matter, cancel them. Keeping Up With the Kardashians is coming back TONIGHT (March 31) for another season of tea, and it looks like we’re gonna be treated again to some truly nutty dispatches from Calabasas.
This season is way more complicated than previous seasons – thanks to the fact that, um, the Tristan Thompson/Jordyn Woods/Khloé Kardashian cheating scandal went down right when the family was wrapping up filming. In other words, E! probably had to hustle to re-cut the whole show. (Or was the whole thing a PR stunt? Some seem to think so.) Anyway, I digress. Here’s exactly what to expect from the upcoming season of KUWTK.
First of All, We’ll Finally Figure Out What Church of Kanye Is
As you may have noticed, Kim’s husband has completed his transformation from a rapper into…like…a pastor or something? Honestly IDK, but Kanye spends every Sunday running a private church for rich people in his backyard (I think?), and no one has any idea what it all means. From the looks of this trailer, E! is on the case.
Prepare to W-I-T-N-E-S-S.
Yes, the Cheating Scandal Will Be Covered, But…
It’s unclear how much real estate it’ll get. Keeping Up With the Kardashians just happened to be filming when Khloé found out that Tristan had cheated on her with Jordyn Woods, which means everything—even Khloé watching the Red Table Talk interview—was caught on camera.
And while sure, E!‘s juicy new trailer was basically 100 percent devoted to the drama that has haunted our news feeds for weeks (the words “Red Table Talk” = almost certainly cursed at this point), let’s keep in mind that this saga legit went down just a couple weeks ago. Before that, the interns at KUWTK headquarters were presumably well into editing season 16 and figuring out its story arc.
In other words, yes, you can expect tea to spill. But chances are that the front half of this season will be taken up by extremely boring Kendall Jenner Proactiv content. On that note…
Def Don’t Expect ANY Khloé Drama in the First Few Eps
According to TV Guide, episode 1 will be heavy on the Kim/Kanye drama and will also feature some Kourtney post-breakup goodness:
Kim’s fierce loyalty to her husband becomes a source of conflict while on a trip to Chicago. Kourtney struggles with anxiety in the aftermath of her breakup, so her sisters decide to plan a girls’ trip to Palm Springs to cure her breakup blues. MJ feels neglected by her daughter, Kris.
Meanwhile, episode two will feature more of the same:
Kim plans a trip to New York for her husband’s appearance on SNL to show Kourtney how far Scott has come as a family man. [Editor’s note: How are these two things related? Your guess is as good as mine.] At the same time, Kim contemplates an unexpected move to Chicago, and Kris fears her mother might be seriously ill.
Kylie Is Only in Part of This Season
According to a Us Weekly source, Ky was so devastated by her best friend’s betrayal that she didn’t want to be on camera. They said, “She was very upset about the situation with Jordyn and also just didn’t want to deal with it and have to address it.” The source also claimed that even though Kylie’s back at it now, it’s still challenging: “Kylie took a little break from filming Keeping Up With the Kardashians and recently got back into filming and it’s been a struggle and difficult.”
It’s unclear whether or not this break coincided with Kylie’s own mini scandal, by which I mean reports and rumors that she accused Travis Scott of cheating.
Kim and Kanye’s Relationship Struggles Will Be Front and Center
Kim is known for standing by Kanye no matter what (see: his infamous comments on slavery), but there’s one sacrifice she’s not willing to make: a move to Chicago. Apparently, Kanye’s desire to relocate to the midwest was a major issue in their relationship; Kim even described it as a “breaking point.”
The Wildfires Will (Maybe) Be the Season’s OTHER Big Drama
Okay, here’s the thing. After weeks of filming, E! dropped the first trailer for the new season on February 28th. The Tristan/Jordyn cheating scandal was pretty fresh at the time, and the E! bosses clearly hadn’t figured out exactly how to incorporate the drama into season 16. Plus, again, the network already had tons of footage and a presumed plan for how the season would be laid out. So…
An early trailer from the show makes it clear that Khloé rebuilding her relationship with Tristan would take center stage, as well as the Kardashians’ experience with the devastating wild fires in California, which caused them to evacuate their million-dollar homes. It’s safe to assume that the wildfires will still make the cut…but it’s unclear if that event will get as much screen time as it would have pre-scandal.
Also, E! Is Still Pushing Scott and Kourtney Drama on Us
If you are one of the few remaining people who care, the trailer makes it clear their relationship is still a thing we’ll be dealing with on the show. Cool.
