Greenhouse gas emissions are on the rise and if we keep this up, global warming will become irreversible. But, this could be reversed by 2050 if we take action right now – which is what Egypt is doing.

What’s Egypt’s new initiative all about?

The country is stepping up its initiatives to counter climate change and raise awareness about the issue. The National Climate Change Strategy 2050 has been recently launched, a presidential initiative called ‘100 Million Trees‘ to plant trees on highways in the country and provide green spaces to the public and help save the environment.

The project will be carried out by the government as well as NGOs to reduce emissions, maintain sustainable economic growth and promote the use of renewable energy sources.  Mahmoud Shaarawy, the Minister of Local Development, said that the trees will be planted across 9,900 sites nationwide, with an overall area of 6,600 acres.

According to Prime Minister, Moustafa Madboili, the Egyptian government is prioritising climate change just in time for the COP27 UN Climate Change Conference, taking place In Sharm El Sheikh this November.

With Egypt’s goal to decrease pollution rates to 50% by 2030, all we have to say is that we love an eco-conscious country (!!!)
