Jordan is home to the famed archaeological site of Petra, ancient temples, the Dead Sea, vast desert – and now, for two nights only, me.

I’m here to check out W Hotel Amman, the chic and shiny offering from the 5-star hotel group with 55 venues across the globe. My journey begins by entering through an intriguing canyon walk, a recreation inspired by the ancient city of Petra (one of the Seven Wonders of the World, FYI). It’s the perfect mix of the W brand’s contemporary vibes and the historic story of Jordan, and I can’t wait to see more.

Inside, the hotel’s ‘living room’ area is lively and colourful (the artwork is very cool) and after check-in I take the lift up to one of the 280 guest rooms and 44 suites. I’m (okay, Cosmo) is lucky enough to bag one of the suites, which is full of bold interiors and floor to ceiling windows with epic views of the Jordanian capital. The open plan room is relaxing, clean, modern and smart. And here’s a tip: if it’s a party you’re after, book the Extreme WOW Suite, complete with panoramic views, in-room DJ deck, entertainment system and private Jacuzzi (next time?).

Elsewhere, there’s a fully equipped gym (I skip it) and outside yoga terrace (I go as far as having a photo taken against the city backdrop). The spa, however, was a destination I made sure not to swerve, and booked in for a 60-minute Dead Sea aromatherapy massage. Taking full advantage of the salt lake the country borders, there are also options for a 30-minute Dead Sea Body Scrub complete with lemongrass and papaya, or 50-minute Dead Sea Wrap using detox mud and avocado. Dreamy.

The following morning – I was still entirely full from a sushi dinner at W’s Asian restaurant – I was determined to (temporarily) break up with W Amman, in order to soak up a taste of Jordan’s impressive heritage. Within the capital itself, the Roman ruins of Jerash are magical, and offer an incredible opportunity to climb over ancient architecture without ticketed restriction. Also, make sure you pop in to the newly built Jordan Museum, and book an authentic Jordanian cooking class at Beit Sitti – which translates to ‘grandma’s house’.

One thing I’ve learned is staying at a W hotel is a complete experience. The high energy atmosphere at W Amman encourages you to explore your surroundings and live in the moment, while also persuading you to take full advantage of the upscale property. Put simply, I will be back.
